Agile Happenings in Atlanta – June 2011
I was just going through my calendar and there has been a ton going on this month in Atlanta. We’ve already had the Rally Agile Success Tour in town and Dean Stevens recently spoke at this month’s Agile Atlanta Users Group (on Kanban I seem to recall).
Over the next few weeks we’ve got Dennis Stevens doing a talk for the PMI MPUG group on Agile Project Management, Concepts and Tools. We’ve got Rick Austin doing a talk for the PMI Agile LIG, a reprise of the Story Mapping talk he did at the Scrum Meetup a month or so back. And last, we have Bob Vincent from VersionOne doing a talk at the Scrum Meetup on Progressive Elaboration and Specification of User Stories.
The PMI events charge a fee… the Scrum Meetup is free. Hope to see you locals out and about this month.
Dennis Stevens at the PMI MPUG – Monday June 13, 2011 5:00 to 8:00
Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center, 246 Perimeter Center Parkway NE, Atlanta, GA 30346
Agile is quite the buzz in the project management community these days. With PMI officially forming the Agile Community of Practice, and on the verge of launching it’s Agile Certified Practitioner credential, understanding agile is no longer an option… it’s a job requirement.
In this talk, Dennis will explore the foundations of agile project management, and discuss the concepts you need to know to be successful. We will pay particular attention to the tooling aspects of agile and some of the methods agile teams use to track and plan their work.

Story mapping is a technique for aligning release boundaries within the context of the overall system by identifying minimally marketable features (MMF) to help slice releases. During this talk we will decompose features into stories and then work through an exercise of release planning.

As always, hope to see you guys out an about. If you join us for the Scrum Meetup, we usually head over to Joey D’s right after the meeting. Dennis and I quite often pick up the first (and sometimes second) round.
